Unfortunately the media got wind of it (not realizing it was normal procedure) and made him look like a monster. I remember there was a lot of negative press, but very little retraction later on. This poor guy deserved a statewide holiday, instead he got years of harassment and bad press.
A well made movie about an almost forgotten episode in American history. Eastwood has decided to direct movies about interesting, instructive, overlooked but recent stories lost in the noise of modern times. Remember the Americans stopping the terrorist on the Paris train? You probably do because of his movie about it. Remember Richard Jewell and the Atlanta Olympics bombing? Probably not, or slightly if at mething about a fat Paul Blart-ish security guard, wasn't it? Now you'll come to know how a young, idealistic man was destroyed cynically by the forces still active in America today: the government, the FBI, major media who care not for the individual but care mightily about clearing crimes no matter how, and clicks and viewership. A riveting movie, well worth seeing.

I was at the park when this happened. Everyone turned on Jewell overnight. It was crazy! I was working at the Shepherd Center in ATL and we were prolly two blocks from the explosion. Insane that only one person died, and it was from a heart attack.

It just sickens me how these monsters tried to ruin the life of a good and decent man, a genuine American hero. He lived to only 44 years, almost certainly having his life unusually short because of the incredible stress that the media/FBI complex put on him, not at all unlike what is happening right now with the same bad actors and our president. May Richard Jewell rest in peace.

This great film has some of the most amazing performances by actors in recent movie history. Everyone from the leads, Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell and Kathy Bates down to the extras, the acting was phenomenal.
I am shocked and disheartened that a movie of this quality, caliber, and excellence did not perform better at the BO. The acting was so incredible and nuanced that you forget it's a movie and you feel like you're watching a reel of Richard Jewel's life.
MUST SEE FILM! Bravo EVERYONE involved. Clint Eastwood, just wow. Legendary.

Great movie. Got to see it. The FBI and press have been promoted from framing and smearing a heroic security guard to doing the same thing to a U.S. president. Way to go FBI and MSM.
